Ritsem was one of the SweGrid machines. It is named for the location Ritsem, near the Stora Sjöfallet National Park in northern Sweden.

On this machine, jobs could only be run over the grid - there was no local PBS job access. Some information about job submission and certificates can be found on SNIC's page about Job management and Obtaining a grid certificate.

It was comprised of 68 Intel Xeon quad-core 2.66 GHz nodes, with 16 GB memory per node. The interconnect is GigaBit Ethernet. Ritsem's theoretical max flop rate is 5.8 TF.

The hardware in the Swegrid project is financed by a donation from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. Operational costs and personnel for support and maintenance are funded by the Swedish research council (VR) via SNIC. VR is also funding research targeted toward grid within the framework of Swegrid. SNIC is coordinator of Swegrid operation.
