Apply for HPC resources of a new project (SNAC or HPC2N)

If you wish to apply for a project (SNAC or a HPC2N project) which will have resources allocated at HPC2N, the Principal Investigator (PI) has to apply for one according to the rules described on SNIC homepage. There are three different kinds of projects you can apply for: small, medium, and large.

Small level requests:

  • Max 5000 core hours/month/resource
  • Applications are handled locally at the SNIC centres.
  • For small projects and new groups that want to gain experience in using HPC-systems
To apply for a small project send an email to support@hpc2n.umu.se with the following information:
  • Name of principal investigator
  • A short abstract of the project
  • Length of project (max 12 month)
  • Which resource you prefer to use
  • Amount of core hours/month
  • If the users in the project already have user accounts at HPC2N, their usernames

Medium level requests:

  • Max 80000 core hours/month/resource (available resources here)
  • Applications can be submitted at any times to HPC2N via this form
  • Evaluation of applications are performed locally and accesses the feasability of using the requested resources

Before filling out the form to apply for a medium level project, you should read this page for instructions.

Large level requests:
  • Min 80000 core hours/month for at least one resource (available resources here)
  • Minor applications for supplementary resources can be included
  • Calls for applications for large level applications are issued twice a year by SNAC. There are instructions and an applications form here
  • Applications are evaluated by SNAC and they also decides on the allocations, based on scientific merit, need for the resources, efficient use of the resources, and impact
  • Note that if a large level application is granted time, you can not submit additional medium level requests
Before filling out the form to apply for a large level project, you should read this page for instructions.

Make sure you have the following information handy before filling in the form:

  1. your name and affiliation,
  2. which project you are taking part in.

Please, also read the

Rules for using HPC2N resources and services

before you start applying for an account. An overview of the available resources can be found here.

About user accounts and projects

Each user should have one, and only one user account with HPC2N. Each user account may be added to as many projects as the user is participating in. A user should not have multiple user accounts for different projects. After the project has been approved and assigned a project ID, existing user accounts can be added to the project. If you do not yet have a user account, you may apply for a new one on the User Account page.

Adding users to existing projects

There are two ways of doing this; 1) By the user, during the user account application process, or 2) later, by the Principal Investigator (PI) emailing support@hpc2n.umu.se with a list of the users that should be added to the project.

Please look under project info for details on how to obtain project information about current and past projects an HPC2N.

Questions?
